Femi M. ISHOLA (Ph.D., R. Engr)

I am an experienced Researcher, Engineer, Innovator, and Entrepreneur with a strong background in Electro-Optics, Space, and Satellite Systems Engineering, I bring a wealth of expertise to my work in utilizing cutting-edge engineering to solve humanity’s problems and expanding our dominance and exploration of the universe. Privileged to have received top-notch education and professional experience in the leading technological countries in the world, accredited and licensed engineering practitioner by the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN); Reg. No. R.42182. With a versatile skillset encompassing optical systems development, antennas, and microwave systems, my current research and projects focus on integrated photonics, laser communication technologies for drones, small satellites, unmanned and autonomous systems, Beyond-5G integration, and beamed energy systems.

I am the Founder & CEO of Phemotron Systems LLC (http://www.phemotron.com).  

Formerly a Researcher at the Space Communication Systems Laboratory at the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) in Tokyo, Japan for over two years. I acquired a Ph.D. in Electrical and Space Systems Engineering at the Laboratory of Lean Satellite and In-Orbit Experiments (LaSEINE), Kyushu Institute of Technology in Kitakyushu, Japan. I served as a Research Engineer at the National Space Research and Development Agency in Nigeria for over 5 years. At the Space Agency’s Centre for Space Transport and Propulsion, I was the Pioneer and Project Manager of the Ground Control Station with an interconnected Sounding-Rocket Avionics System.

I participated in the Japanese Engineering Test Satellite (ETS-9) HICALI project and the NICT CubeSOTA 6U CubeSat optical communication mission development. An alumnus of the International Space University (ISU) Masters Program, I have participated in various international research projects, such as the South-Australian Universities Collaboration Satellite (SUSat) QB50-Project. I was a Teaching Associate at the Southern Hemisphere Space Studies Program (SHSSP-2020). I also hold a first Degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering from the University of Lagos and a Distinction in Electrical/Electronics Engineering from Ondo State Polytechnic, Nigeria.

Recipient of numerous awards and accolades, including the 2019 Emerging Space Leaders Grant Award by the International Astronautical Federation (IAF), the Kano State Government Award for the Best Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Project, and the SEEES/Nigerian Society of Engineers Nationwide Award for the Best and Most-Outstanding University Project on “Microwave Wireless Power Transmission Prototype and Demonstration”.
